Social Networking Towards Education (Reflection)

The interest and growth in social networking represents new emerging technologies which are used in the education system by educators and also students. These networks emerge as communicative and interactive which enable users to know and learn things.

The social networking services and a variety of open social software program goes into the education market daily. Most of the social networking sites provide services such as e-mails, instant messaging, chat, video, blogging, file sharing, photo sharing so users can easily interact with each other.

These sites also provide a database of users so people can find their friends, from communities and connect with others who share the similar interests. The social network services allow users to create their profiles online and articulate their social networks. This is done through “friend” requests, wherein one user asks another to approve the connection. If the relationship is approved, the person shows up on the users’ friends list and vice versa.

The majority of social networking services are free of charge. The educators and students can use the blog system to teach and learn. It is an effective way of how teaching and learning process could take place. This process enables one to interact and share their ideas, opinions, views and so forth.

Immediate response is also available via social networking. Information, materials and articles could be shared via the social network. It is effective, cost saving and fast. The networking is emerging as a tool of convenience in education and also in other area of interest.

The proliferation of social networking highlights the potential value of social networking in education. As educators, we must harness social networking technologies to optimize the achievement of learning outcomes for our student. A good blend of acceptable use policy and online safety education for students are required to successfully implement social networking in schools.
